About work

In the darkness, there appears the unconscious reality…

The drawings arise from my memories of cities I visited. I draw them in the darkness, with eyes closed. The cities I was trying to capture were well known places, such as New York, London, Berlin, Warsaw, Bucharest or Tirana. The drawings are installed in the light boxes on the walls in a dark room to evocate the surface of unconscious imagination. I was trying to capture just the main gestures, the main spatial relationships. In my opinion, the cities stand for a concentration of human will and constructive building activity. The drawings do not describe real structures of the world but rather deal with emotional records, leaving aesthetic demands aside and accenting the spatial relationships and basic characteristics of the places. I worked with the principle of unconsciousness and uncontrolled mind for their modification opposite forces to those which created these cities. When we live in a city, we usually focus on things around us, noticing mostly details. But once we use our memory, we can recall the atmosphere, the taste of the city. We remember feelings and recognize the major differences
