About work

This cycle of six photographs depicts young, semi-dressed girls in sexually suggestive poses. The photos are placed on the top of black boxes and illuminated from blow. The images feature a decorative background redolent of the late nineteenth century. Bromová attempts to penetrate space and create a 3-dimensional work.

Enchanted Princesses, one of my first installations, is actually a video recording of a girl from which photographs are derived as sequences, a short film taken from an intimate life. These are views of the intimacy of a girl who sleeps imprisoned in a box-coffin and can be looked at by everyone because she is exhibited under glass. It is as though she is illuminated on X-ray and everyone can observe her, including her most hidden secrets. And she cannot defend herself against this intrusion, but merely curl up in the space that has been assigned her.” (VB)
