Statement

My work concerns especially my relation to space.

Space as a phenomenon, as an endless territory of subjects. And then especially the town and architecture, making a statement about many a thing.

This is not only the physical perception of space. Architecture / space / is perceived by all senses and it can be perceived as a visual composition, as a sequence of people’s meetings and situations, as well as a hotbed of countless subjects activating our perception.

Architecture, visual arts, design, music / sound / text / poetry /film - everything seems to be interconnected, everything can be seen, read and listened to. The arising question is the boundary, or gap “in between”, an analysis of individual items and relationships, all of which may be considered at the cultural, artistic, aesthetic, social etc. levels.

In terms of historical period, I find modernism the most essential period, however, I don’t want to fulfil it artistically in any way; I want to explore its possibilities and use them at the present (postmodern) time under different circumstances.

I don’t want to reproduce or display my surroundings in the way anyone may see them / anyone differently / - I am interested in creating new situations, integrating all that I have seen, into my aesthetic and ideas.

The most essential characteristics? Simplicity, austerity, cleanness, order, relationships, communication. I am interested in interferences and analysis; I work with geometry, which is, however, no longer my objective but my means. I am interested in stratification, overlapping, articulation, structures but also emptying / the emptiness /.

Creation means processes going on and affecting one another. Transforming ideas into the visual form. Conceptual attitude. Ways - returns - recollections - views - all in one. Looking, seeing, perceiving. Transforming my perception into the picture. Incorporating the most subtle and the most instant impulses into the complex expression language. Interconnecting minds, a dialogue, resonance, duality, reverse intervention.

No matter what medium I use – whether it is an object, picture, wall painting, photograph, author’s book, text or my activities as a curator – everything is closely linked, everything is work and nothing can be separated. A concept with a number of solutions.

We are found in a space that is communicative, and we are fully incorporated into it. Its structure is rooted in the depth of culture, which is connected with the unity of the world of our culture. It isn’t only the measure, the light, material and structuring but also everything else that can be seen in space, becomes its representation and creates the true essence of each particular place. I am interested in the transition from the space of the real possibilities to the space of the possible realities. We are in captivity of “plenty” of everything. Emptiness dwindles. We are overwhelmed with information. I am interested in the gap “in between”, looking for emptiness, just like the intentional emptying. Isn’t emptiness / nothingness / sometimes more than / often delusive, silly ... / information? I find the space “in between” most important. It offers relations both between buildings, objects, moments ..., and between themselves and the actual space.

We are surrounded by pictures, given forms that somehow systematise the fragmentary character of our visual culture. The urban reality offers visual territories, and both visual and mental spaces are offered.

I am coming to the subject of the “text”, which is also ubiquitous. I am interested in both the urban and medial landscape, from the point of view of a certain critical attitude. A text viewed in its relationship to visuality, when its conceptual perception is being changed into a visually pictorial perception. A written text may be viewed as a picture and, at the same time, a picture may be viewed as a written text. Visuality may change into the ability to read and vice versa. I am equally interested in working with a text at the level of irony, banality, formality or mere descriptiveness of a moment, or taking out of the context. Text in a different context.

Last but not least, a certain confrontation of the visual / experimental / poetry in its relationship to present-day information systems.

A number of these subjects sometimes play “only” at the level of author’s books, which are at the same time a sort of laboratory and archive of my interests, to which one may return and with which one may go on working.

I find a strong connection between architecture, the visual arts, text and music, and cannot help mentioning a book in this context that has caught my interest recently. It is “Architecture at the time of the divided representation” /The problem of creativity in the shadow of production / by Dalibor Veselý. He states, among other things, that “the architectonic communication is equal to architectonics, which may be characterised by the same main features as the architectonic space, with its invisible power, penetrating through other levels of the articulated world. Its structuring power may be identified not only in painting and sculpture but also in other spheres as poetry or music ...”

Space offers me an abundance of moments, questions and subjects. Creation takes place both at the level of realisation and non-realisation, which remains at the level of thinking, which however, replaces an important /with continuously influential/element. Particulars comprising a whole, when the entire process may be viewed as one work. Communication at the abstract level, when the diverse communicative appearance corresponds to the given situation.
